From the historical situation of United States to the contemporary issue of China, private arts & culture funding is a classical issue on the global stage.
In a context of public funding crisis in Europe, the French turning point of the Aillagon law of 2003 led by the cultural sector created very favourable tax conditions to encourage fundraising which became an emerging phenomenon. The various dimensions of this phenomenon will be explored: the key role of the cultural sector itself in this new deal, the slow organizational learning of companies, the key role of public and non-for-profit intermediaries, etc. The extraordinary acceleration in professionalization and the results from fundraising in the largest institutions – Louvre Museum, Château of Versailles, etc. - constitute one of the markers of this new pragmatism in the cultural sector that touches the majority of regional cultural organisations, although still with fairly modest results.
Discussion between the speakers aims to raise glocal perspectives on the topic.
